Assault rifles are the bread and butter of CS:GO weapon. Almost every round of a match features 8-10 of them and learning how to use the main ones is essential. The list includes:

On this list, the AK-47 and the M4A4 are by far the most used. Few weapons are as strong or complete as either of them. In particular, the AK-47 is an assault rifle that can kill armored enemies with ease. Its fire rate is impressive, but you will usually not utilize it to its fullest because of the chaotic spray pattern and high recoil.
Learning to properly shoot with an AK or an M4A4 takes many hours. The Counter-Terrorist team can only buy the M4A4, while the Terrorist team can only buy the AK-47. Each of them is a powerful weapon and both are some of the most versatile weapons, being capable of dealing serious damage from long and short range alike.
The team that wins the pistol round is the one who can afford to buy the best weapons first. And the choice is almost always one of these two. The instant kill potential, the high-damage body shots, and the long ranges make them two of the best weapons in the game.
